Homes for men and women who are in recovery from alcohol and substance use. Our homes operate similar to a transitional house. Where one shares a bedroom and bathroom in addition to the remainder of the home.
All residents are randomly drug and alcohol screened, and room searches are done periodically. Residents are expected to attend at least five outside AA/NA meetings, as well as a mandatory in-house meeting held every week. Residents are encouraged to build their recovery network, including getting a sponsor and home group and following the recovery pathway they believe will work for them.
We encourage our residents to also seek professional or spiritual coaching (i.e. Therapist, Counselor, Coach, or Pastor) to help build their overall support system . In addition, we help residents connect to community resources (Government assistance, family and legal services, resume’ building and employment opportunities.)

I have worked in the Mental Service field for ten plus years. Over the years, I have seen firsthand the impact that untreated addictions can have on the family and our community. My passion comes from having loved ones who battle addiction. My goal is to create homes that would be suitable for them. Each home is designed with my loved ones in mind, creating an environment that is conducive to long term recovery. I believe the GOD- I serve has called me to be a Beacon of light in our community. This is why I have established A Beacon of Light, LLC.
“ Since moving into A Beacon of Light Sober House. Blessings have been pouring in one after another. I have a great job. I have been able to further my recovery into eighteen months. I am a great father to my son and we spend weekends together. My brothers in the home help me with my recovery. Finally, the Operator Shaun- is heaven sent! I recently had a really bad tooth infection and needed emergency care. I was stuck at work in excruciating pain. With no ride to the hospital. She dropped everything to provide transportation for me to get there and made sure I had the proper medication after my procedure. I’ve never had a Sober Home owner who cares about me the way she does.”
“ I love my sober home. I love the area and location of my home. I especially love that I am safe and far away from temptations. A Beacon of Light Sober House helps hold me accountable to remain and stay sober. I now know; that after this last relapse- I am still powerless to Alcohol. The Operator Shaun- has a HUGE pure heart. Her 2nd chance program allowed me to return to the home. This last relapse nearly took my life, BUT Shaun was there every SINGLE step of the way.”
“In my 27 years of recovery. I have never lived in a Sober House as beautiful, grand and luxurious as York- Chester Home. I just love to see the men’s facial expressions on the day of move in. They are always in utter shock that they get to live in a beautiful mansion. I’m so happy I get to utilize my gifts of support and encouragement to lead my brothers. Lastly, Shaun is one of a kind. I’ve never met an Operator who is kind, genuine, loving and passionate about helping and serving others. That woman has God’s anointing all over her. There is nothing she won’t help you with, there is never a time I can’t reach her, and in the time of need- She comes running.”
